Pre-Owned & Used Saddles: Quality Tack Without the Price Tag

Buying a great saddle doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune. Going with a quality used saddle lets you ride in top-tier leatherwork and trusted brand names at a fraction of the original price.

Best of all? Used leather is already broken in—so you get supple leather and instant comfort from your very first ride, with zero breaking-in period.

Why Buy Used?

  • More Brand for Your Money: Get into high-end brands (like Wintec, Kent & Masters, Thorowgood, or Albion) on a real budget.

  • Ready to Ride: Skip the stiff, squeaky new-leather stage. Used saddles are already soft and molded to fit comfortably.

  • Holds Its Value: New saddles lose value the moment they leave the shop. A good pre-owned saddle holds its resale price remarkably well if you take care of it.

Quick Safety & Condition Checklist

What to Check How to Inspect It What You Want to See
The Tree Frame Hold the pommel and pull back gently on the cantle. Firm resistance—no deep creaks, popping sounds, or bending.
The Panels Run your hands down the underside of the panels. Smooth, soft flocking with no hard lumps or thin spots.
Billet Straps Check the leather girth straps and stitching closely. Solid leather with no deep cracking or stretched-out holes.

A Quick Fitting Tip

If you pick up a wool-flocked used saddle, remember that a local saddle fitter can easily adjust, top up, or completely strip and reflock the wool. It’s one of the easiest ways to get a custom-feeling fit on a budget!
